California Air Resources Board (ARB) staff has posted the highly anticipated Tier1 and Tier 2 excel models. First- generation fuels are referred to as “Tier 1” and innovative/next-generation fuels as “Tier 2” fuels. Which Tier category a fuel falls into is easily ascertained from the model: fuels not included in the Tier 1 model are in the Tier 2 category.
- CA-GREET 2.0 – Tier 1: For conventionally produced first-generation fuels
(Starch- and sugar-based ethanol, biodiesel, renewable diesel, CNG, LNG, CARBOB, and ULSD) - CA-GREET 2.0 – Tier 2: For next-generation fuels
(Cellulosic alcohols, hydrogen, drop-in fuels, etc.) - Supporting Document: Documents changes between GREET1 2013 and CA-GREET 2.0
Tier 1 fuels can now establish a carbon intensity value using the “Tier 1 Calculator” in CA-GREET 2.0. Applicants must submit the T1 calculator results, along with the supporting documentation to the ARB for processing. ARB will certify the application by posting online. Second generation (Tier 2) fuels would follow much the same procedures for submission of Method 2A or 2B applications as is currently the case.
Note: The Tier 2 model appears to be a template and not fully active, we will keep you posted on new releases!
